DNS just means Domain Name Server and is the way your web browser (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera etc.) is directed around the Internet to the web site you asked for with the URL ( the web link ).The various DNS servers talk to each other so they know where to direct the request even if they don't exactly know where the site is.
A bit like when you send a letter or parcel to someone. The person who gets it in the first place may not know where 12 Bamera Road, Blockbuster, TX is but they probably know that TX is Texas so the article goes in that lot of freight. When it gets to Texas the handler there knows which part of the state Blockbuster is and sends it there. The handler there knows which part of Blockbuster Bamera Road is and gives it to the person who knows where 12 is so it get delivered.
If you call each of these handlers a DNS then you can understand how the system works. All you have to do with your web set up is tell the registration domain name service what the what the web site host DNS server is called and the info all gets passed around.
The Internet needs a little help from you to be able to know how to find your web site when someone types the URL into their browser. Go to your domain name registrar click here first (opens in new window) or log into your new web host.
